Prentiss (Hottel) Taylor (1907 - 1991) was active/lived in District Of Columbia.  Prentiss Taylor is known for Modernist-ethno-naive genre paitning, illustration, printmaking.

PRENTISS TAYLOR (1907-1991)

Prentiss Taylor, printmaker, painter, and art therapist, was born in Washington D.C. in 1907. He studied at the Corcoran Gallery Art School and the Art Students League of New York. In 1931 he collaborated with author Langston Hughes in creating Golden Stair Press, printing and publishing broadsides and books.

Taylor visited Charleston, South Carolina, from the end of May 1933 to Labor Day of that year, and when back in New York he created a number of lithographs based on his sketches and experiences in the South. Again he visited Charleston, arriving in February 1934 and staying for a short while, this time employed on the Public Works of Art Project in New York. Other visits to Charleston occurred in 1946 and several times thereafter.

Taylor received fellowships at the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo. From 1942 to 1976 he was the president of the Society of Washington Printmakers. Taylor practiced art therapy from 1943 to 1954 at St. Eliza   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1868 characters.]  Artist bio
